Professional Nutrient
Analysis Webring Homepage
Welcome to the homepage of The Professional
Nutrient Analysis Webring! This webring is intended to link websites
of dietitians or other food and nutrition professionals (or organizations
employing these professionals) involved in any of the following activities:
-
Nutrient database research and
development.
-
Professional nutritional analysis software
development, or consulting services to companies developing this type of
software.
-
Provision of nutrient analysis services.
(Note: "nutrient analysis
services" are not intended to include the provision of such services for
the primary purpose of working with individuals regarding their particular
nutritional needs. Rather, it is intended to include only those who use
nutrient databases to provide, as their primary end product or service, food
compositional data for foods, recipes, or menus. While it is true that
this data could then be applied to evaluating individual nutritional needs, the
primary purpose of the organization would simply be provision of the nutrient
data, which can be used for many purposes.)
It is my hope that this webring will enhance
awareness of the issues and scientific research behind the development
of high quality nutrient databases, and the software which makes it easier
to utilize this information. Be sure to visit this site's information
about the use of nutrient databases for nutrition
labelling, professional nutrition software
systems, including guidelines
for selecting the right software for your needs, and a global comparison
of various professional nutrient analysis software packages.

to complete the application form.
Please note that if your site does not
appear to be that of a food or nutrition professional trained at an accredited
university, the Ringmaster
reserves the right to not place your site in the ring. If your site
is a commercial site selling nutrition software, please provide information
that will be helpful to professionals interested in learning about nutrient
databases. Examples of "helpful" information can include:
-
Any use of imputed nutrient values (taking
values from other similar foods).
-
Use of data from supplementary nutrient databases
(e.g. some of USDA's "supplementary" databases covering foods not included
in the current Standard Reference release).
-
Measures taken to ensure integrity of nutrient
data provided by companies whose products are included in your software's
database.
While there is nothing wrong with marketing
your software, please also contribute meaningfully to the learning needs
of professionals interested in computer-assisted nutrient analysis.
